Are you an Electrical Engineer who can ensure assigned engineering activities are executed with a high degree of understanding of electrical power generation/distribution systems and electrical equipment?

For one of our clients providing innovative offshore solutions, we are looking for an Electrical Engineer who can be responsible for the selection of methods and procedures, the performance of the work, and the optimisation of the design within the scope of the project specifications.

You may be assigned as a Package Engineer with technical responsibility for the design, procurement, and manufacture of the Package. The Electrical Engineer must work with Engineers and Designers both within and outside the discipline to produce quality work and safeguard the Company's interest. You may also act as Discipline Lead for assigned projects.

Tasks & responsibilities

Ensure assigned engineering activities are executed:

  • Understand, plan, and deliver assigned tasks with accuracy within the agreed time frame.
  • Identify areas requiring more detailed instructions and clarify understanding/expectations as necessary with the Discipline Lead.
    • Ensure there are no surprises.
  • Develop engineering documents in a manner that the design intent can be interpreted correctly.
  • Complete tasks in compliance with applicable engineering codes, industry standards/regulations, and work procedures.
  • Proactively interface with Discipline Lead and peers for resolving issues, and sharing information and progress.
  • Seek clarification or guidance as soon as difficulties arise.
    • Recommend alternative solutions.
  • Perform a thorough self-check of all deliverables before submission for review/approval.
  • Properly plan work to allow adequate time for documents to be thoroughly checked to ensure accuracy.
  • The measure of your effectiveness in these tasks will be:
    • Performance Feedback from Discipline Leads.
    • Timeline and accuracy in completing tasks.

Achieve effective interface management:

  • Understand how assigned tasks will affect all disciplines and stakeholders.
    • Provide timely and accurate input to other disciplines in support of their design requirements in meeting deadlines.
  • Proactively provide the Discipline Lead with status updates, highlight concerns as they arise, and prioritise assigned activities to meet key milestones.
  • Network with stakeholders to serve as a source of support in executing project deliverables.
    • Ensure proactive two-way communication.
  • Produce consistent/organised documents in a well-structured format to convey the required information.
  • Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, third-party consultants, etc. to ensure timely review of documents and that comments are made with the required quality level.
  • Provide timely and accurate input to other disciplines in support of their design requirements and project deliverables.
  • The measure of your effectiveness in these tasks will be:
    • Demonstrated effective interfaces within and across disciplines.
    • Timely closure of interface issues.

Contribute to the success of managing changes:

  • Raise awareness of issues timely to the Discipline Lead
    • Understand the change impact within and across disciplines and identify the stakeholders to be engaged.
  • Respectfully challenge proposed changes that significantly impact project deliverables to ensure the best option is taken as the way forward.
  • Prioritise activities to effectively manage conflicting deadlines to meet key milestones and deliverables.
  • Ensure changes are conveyed through the established channels of communication to minimise the impact on deliverables and the project.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in implementing changes.
  • Ensure Management of Change (MOC) procedures are used to promote a positive impact on the project.
  • The measure of your effectiveness in these tasks will be:
    • Resolution of design changes within budget and agreed timeline.
    • Demonstrated understanding of the change impact.

Ensure quality of engineering deliverables:

  • Be self-motivated to improve technical competencies for current and future work assignments.
  • Promote continuous improvement within the discipline by maintaining/sharing the latest industry developments.
  • Ensure activities are completed with consistency and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Apply and capture applicable lessons learned in the execution of activities to enable information sharing, increase project efficiencies, and support/develop best practices.
  • Ensure work is organised and documented in a manner to support the intent of the design for easy understanding by others.
  • Ensure the proper level of checks for all deliverables before submission
    • Avoid cutting corners.
  • The measure of your effectiveness in these tasks will be:
    • Demonstrated quality of deliverables.
    • Zero design changes that compromise safety and quality.
    • Cost of Non-Quality.

In the case you are acting as Lead Engineer, you will ensure the project is properly planned:

  • Take ownership to define and develop discipline scope by understanding and evaluating the project requirements.
  • Identify dependencies and obtain alignment with project stakeholders to ensure safety and quality are not sacrificed in the effort to meet the project schedule.
  • Collaborate with the Discipline Manager/Engineering Project Manager to accurately forecast man-hours, resource needs, and completion date for deliverables.
  • Set team expectations for quality standards and enforce safety requirements to meet project needs, corporate standards, and industry regulations.
  • The measure of your effectiveness in these tasks will be:
    • Productivity = man-hours earned/man-hour spend.
    • Demonstrated understanding of discipline design impact on other disciplines.
    • Cost of Non-Quality.

In the care you are acting as Lead Engineer, you will effectively lead an engineering team:

  • Understand project requirements and appropriately assign tasks to team members.
  • Ensure each team member understands their role and responsibilities.
  • Provide coaching and guidance as needed to team members
    • Partner with Discipline Manger for mentoring staff as needed.
  • Proactively address any performance issues and partner with the Discipline Manager to continuously improve team performance.
  • Promote a positive work environment to keep a high level of employee engagement (e.g., by providing timely feedback to the team, and supporting staff in development needs).
  • Ensure previous lessons learned are incorporated into the project to minimise the impact of expected or unforeseen changes
    • Capture new lessons learned and share them with Engineering Project Manager and Discipline Manager for future projects.
  • The measure of your effectiveness in these tasks will be:
    • Stakeholder feedback on team leadership.
    • Issuance of deliverables within the agreed time frame.
    • Evidence of support on staff improvement/development.

In the case you are acting as Lead Engineer, you are responsible for achieving effective interface management and ensuring changes are managed:

  • Ensure proper communication with internal/external clients to ensure all parties are promptly informed of project developments.
  • Proactively track areas likely to change to reduce the "surprise" element, added costs, and delays to the project.
  • Document all deviations from the agreed scope and budget hours to accurately adjust man hour forecast and project completion date for related changes.
  • Understand and monitor all interfaces with class society and clients to ensure requirements are properly addressed and relevant documents are reviewed timely.
  • Manage the interfaces with Vendors, Subcontractors, and third-party consultants, and ensure relevant documents are reviewed on time and thoroughly.
  • The measure of your effectiveness in these tasks will be:
    • Demonstrated effective interfaces within and across disciplines.
    • Timely closure of interface issues.

Requirements Concept R&D Electrical Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in the selection of methods and procedures.
  • Must know international codes, and industry standards and regulations.
  • You have experience acting as a Discipline Lead for projects.
