Profile Welding and NDE Engineer

Are you an expert in driving continuous improvement in metallurgical and welding methodologies? Would you be interested in working on the metallurgical aspects related to the development of offshore installations?


For one of our clients providing innovative offshore solutions, we are looking for a Welding and NDE Engineer to oversee and advise on metallurgical, fabrication, welding, and non-destructive examination aspects, ensuring compliance with project requirements and international standards throughout various project phases.


Tasks & responsibilities:

  • Lead the specification, monitoring, and advisory role for metallurgical, fabrication, welding, and NDE aspects across project phases, spanning engineering, procurement, construction, and offshore operations for diverse offshore products (FPSO, FSO, MS, PLEM, and Calm Buoy).
  • Efficiently coordinate, execute, and control metallurgical and welding activities within project parameters, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
  • Ensure strict compliance of manufacturers, construction yards, and suppliers with the company, client, and international standards, covering pressure retaining equipment, piping, and structural components.
  • Estimate man-hours and monitor engineering budgets within the field of expertise for projects.
  • Provide global support to the company's international departments/partners and offices, addressing technical qualifications, specification development, specialist technical advice, and failure investigations.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to standardise, simplify, and enhance the efficiency of metallurgical and welding methodologies.
  • Develop comprehensive project specifications for metallurgical and welding activities.
  • Review client technical documentation, relevant legislation, standards, specifications, and code requirements.
  • Participate in engineering man-hours estimation for metallurgical and welding activities.
  • Comply with Group Technical Standards and GEMS processes, raising comments and deviations when necessary.
  • Contribute to defining metallurgical and welding activities deliverables, time schedules, and control activities following contract requirements.
  • Provide valuable assistance to engineering disciplines on metallurgical and welding subject matter.
  • Ensure the quality and compliance of metallurgy, welding, and NDE requirements in equipment packages, and bulk supplies, and adherence to project specifications.
  • Effectively interface with clients, subcontractors, and yards to resolve metallurgy and welding issues.
  • Conduct thorough technical audits and evaluations for bulk material/equipment suppliers and subcontractors, including qualification programs.
  • Review materials deliverables produced by bulk material/equipment suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Offer expert advice on welding, fabrication, and metallurgical matters as required.
  • Assist in material/equipment failure investigations and engineering assessments as required.
  • Propose appropriate actions to prevent, absorb, or minimise deviations from the approved time and budget.
  • Systematically collect project lessons learned for continuous improvement implementation.
  • Stay informed about relevant developments/tools for metallurgical and welding activities and initiate methodology improvements.

Requirements Welding and NDE Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Metallurgy, Petroleum, Materials Science, or a related technical field from an accredited college or university.
  • 10 years of experience in metallurgy, welding, and NDE for FPSO, FSO, FLNG, and mooring systems, spanning FEED, detailed engineering, and execution.
  • Certification from materials-related professional associations such as IWE, IOM3, and TWI is required.
  • Principal knowledge of international offshore industry design, materials, and fabrication codes & standards, including ASME, AWS, API, ISO, NACE, ASTM, ABS, BV, DNV, and LR related to metallurgy, welding, and material selection for CS/LTCS and CRA materials.
  • Familiarity with the functioning principles, fabrication technologies, and build characteristics of equipment used in offshore construction and process plants.
  • Bonus: knowledge of functioning principles behind material, CP systems (ICCP and SACCP), painting, lining, insulation, and fireproofing.
  • Good communication skills, a sense of leadership, and the ability to take initiative.
  • Team player with a track record of delivering in a multifunctional environment, willing to share knowledge and promote standardisation and simplification.
  • Ability to work in multitasking mode, apply design thinking principles and efficiently handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A proactive, self-individual capable of finding efficient ways to deliver expected results.
  • Office presence a few days per week every week is required.
  • Availability for travelling to yards, fabrication sites, and vendor premises worldwide (business trips).
  • Ability to manage several activities in parallel, combined with flexibility and strong analytical and organisational skills.
  • Excellent level of English, both verbally and in writing.
