BIM Information Engineer
Profile BIM Information Engineer
Do you have experience turning complex 3D models into clean, dependable project data? Can you own the BEP, keep IFC/CDE flows tight and help teams trust their information?
-
We are looking for a BIM Information Engineer to organise, optimise, and validate 3D models and technical data so multidisciplinary teams can reliably use accurate, exchangeable information across large offshore engineering projects. With an emphasis on BIM data, digital engineering toolchains and basic information security governance.
-
Tasks & responsibilities:
- Analyse client BIM/information requirements and convert them into practical deliverables and model/data rules.
- Develop, maintain and enforce the BIM Execution Plan (BEP), naming conventions and model-structuring rules.
- Structure and optimise 3D models in Aveva E3D, Tekla Structures and Navisworks for consistency, performance and downstream.
- Configure, validate and troubleshoot IFC/IFC-export settings; manage model exchange workflows (e.g., CDEs/Autodesk Construction Cloud).
- Coordinate model exchanges between modellers, discipline leads and information teams; ensure correct mapping between 3D objects and metadata.
- Perform model-validation tasks (quality checks, class detection, model-cleanup) and provide actionable feedback to model owners.
- Monitor model and data quality throughout the project lifecycle and produce KPI-driven quality reports and dashboards.
- Translate engineering and procurement data into structured project information (tagging, metadata, and alignment with MDM/catalogue systems).
- Extract engineering and procurement insights from model/data (reports, queries, MTOs) to support decision-making and procurement.
- Improve toolchains and integrations (3D ↔ databases); develop and maintain scripts, APIs or small automations to reduce manual work.
- Implement and maintain secure model/data exchange practices; user-access configuration, data classification, and secure file transfer workflows.
- Work with Information Security/IT colleagues to ensure BIM/CDE workflows meet organisational security requirements and audit trails.
- Prepare and maintain standards, templates and mapping documents for workflows, deliverables and data governance.
- Provide training, guidance and day-to-day support to modellers, engineers and information administrators.
- Support digital-engineering initiatives and pilots (new software evaluations, proof-of-concept integrations, catalogue/part-data improvements).
Requirements BIM Information Engineer
• University-level degree (WO/BSc/MSc) in Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Process Engineering, Computer/Data Science or similar.
• Approx. 5+ years experience in BIM, 3D modelling and information/data management on large engineering or offshore/EPC projects (or a similar heavy-industrial environment).
• Hands-on experience with Aveva E3D, Tekla Structures, Navisworks and common CDEs (e.g., Autodesk Construction Cloud).
• Solid understanding of IFC and other open exchange standards and experience validating IFC exports.
• Practical experience with master/reference data management or catalogue systems is an advantage.
• Familiarity with scripting (Python or similar) for automation and data extraction is a plus!
• Demonstrable experience with digital engineering/BIM data workflows in a similar environment (offshore, EPC, maritime, or heavy industry).
• Information-security awareness: knowledge of secure data exchange practices, access control for CDEs, data classification and familiarity with ISO 27001 concepts or information-security controls.
• Strong analytical mindset, methodical attention to detail and a structured approach to data quality.
• Good communication skills, able to translate client requirements into technical tasks and to coach modellers and engineers.
