Marine Systems Engineer

Profile Marine Systems Engineer

Do you have experience turning FEED concepts into buildable, operable marine systems for FPSOs/FLNGs? Can you spot a missing interlock the moment you read a cause-and-effect?

-

We are looking for a Marine Systems Engineer to independently design and integrate marine and utility systems for FPSO/FLNG projects, coordinating across disciplines to ensure compliance with class rules, safety standards, budget, and schedule.

-

Tasks & responsibilities:

  • Own the marine system scope (e.g., ballast, bilge, seawater/firewater, fuels/lubes, cooling, compressed air, utility and ship-support systems) from concept to detail design.
  • Develop and review design basis, system descriptions, P&IDs, calculations, equipment lists, and technical specifications.
  • Interface closely with Naval Architecture, Process, E&I, Piping, HVAC, Technical Safety, and Regulatory teams to resolve system interfaces.
  • Prepare technical requisitions, perform technical bid evaluations, and support package/vendor selection.
  • Review vendor documents, ensure proper integration of packages, and support FATs and inspections.
  • Ensure designs comply with class and regulatory requirements (e.g., ABS, DNV, BV, LR) and applicable standards.
  • Participate in HAZID/HAZOP/SIL/LOPA reviews and implement resulting actions in the design.
  • Provide engineering support to shipyards and sites for mobilisation, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Balance technology choices with cost, operability, maintainability, and constructability.
  • Contribute to lessons learned, standardisation, and continuous improvement of methods and templates.
  • Plan and prioritise deliverables, managing workload peaks and reporting progress to the project team.
  • Collaborate across global offices; undertake short assignments or site visits as required.

Requirements Marine Systems Engineer

  • Bachelor's/Master's (or equivalent) in Marine Engineering, Mechanical/Process Engineering, Higher Seafaring College, or General Operational Technology (AOT).
  • 2+ years of experience in marine systems engineering and design (preferably across Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detail).
  • Proven exposure to floating units such as FPSO/FSO, FLNG, oil & gas carriers, chemical tankers, drill ships/semis, or TLPs.
  • Solid understanding of discipline interfaces (Naval, E&I, Piping, HVAC, Process, Technical Safety & Regulatory).
  • Familiarity with classification society rules and HSSE principles.
  • Advantageous: experience with shipyards/shipboard operations and marine equipment vendors; LNG carrier engineering/operation exposure.
  • Ability to specify equipment and critically assess vendor solutions for technical fitness and commercial impact.
  • Experience in HAZID/HAZOP/SIL/LOPA workshops and implementing outcomes.
  • Proficient with common engineering and CAD/design tools; strong technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Stakeholder-focused, decisive, proactive, resilient, and adaptable; effective communicator in English.
  • Willingness to travel and accommodate occasional workload peaks.
