Naval Architect/Designer
Profile Naval Architect/Designer
Can you coordinate interfaces across disciplines, back your choices with data, and support trials from inclining to DWT surveys? Are you comfortable doing hydro-structural checks and calling productibility early?
-
We are looking for a Naval Architect/Designer to turn demanding requirements into constructible ship designs. You'll be responsible for stability, resistance, weight and hydro-structural analyses, while producing 2D/3D deliverables and supporting trials onboard.
-
Tasks & responsibilities:
- Manage and execute concept & basic design packages for complex vessels and conversions.
- Translate customer requirements into technical specifications, assumptions and design bases.
- Perform core naval architecture calculations: stability, speed-power/resistance, weight management, hydro-structural checks.
- Create and maintain 2D drawings (arrangements, construction/modification/demolition) and 3D models.
- Plan and execute inclining tests, deadweight surveys, and on-board laser scans; process and report results.
- Coordinate technical content across disciplines (structures, piping/outfitting, E&A, HVAC) and with suppliers/co-makers.
- Prepare calculation notes and design documentation for reviews, class comments and client approval.
- Identify risks/constraints early (space, weight, productibility) and propose practical design trade-offs.
- Contribute to methods, standards and toolsets; mentor less-experienced colleagues when needed.
- Support project management with scope, estimates, schedules and progress reporting.
Requirements Naval Architect/Designer
- 5+ years of experience as a Naval Architect/Designer with concept & basic design responsibilities.
- Proven competence in stability, resistance/speed-power, weight engineering and hydro-structural assessment.
- Proficiency in producing clear 2D drawings and 3D models for ship design and modification.
- Comfortable switching between large multidisciplinary programs and smaller fast-track assignments.
- Strong communicator who can align stakeholders and suppliers and keep the big picture in view.
- Curiosity and drive to innovate; you stay up to date with industry developments and bring ideas to the table.
- Nice to have:
- Exposure to submarines, frigates, floating offshore units or special vessels.
- Familiarity with class rules and review cycles; experience preparing sea-trial inputs.
- Working knowledge of relevant CAD/analysis tools (e.g., NAPA/Maxsurf/PIAS/Rhino, FEM or similar).
