Lead Instrumentation Engineer - CO₂ Transport
Instrumentation Engineer / Hybrid
Do you want to contribute to one of the largest and most critical energy infrastructure projects in the Netherlands?
-
Be part of this most prestigious energy transition project in Europe! Our client is developing a brand-new underground transport network for CO₂ and hydrogen connecting a major port, an industrial area, and a neighbouring country’s border. This mega-project forms an essential link in the energy transition and the sustainability of European industry. As an Instrumentation Engineer, you will step in during the current concept selection phase. This gives you the unique opportunity to define the technical standards, blueprints, and designs that will form the foundation for the FEED phase and eventual realisation.
-
What will you do?
You are responsible for the complete instrumentation design within the CO₂ scope of a large-scale energy transition infrastructure programme. Working closely with process engineers, operations and external engineering firms, you deliver solutions for complex installations transporting dense phase CO₂ at design pressures of up to 200 barg. Within the field of Instrumentation, you will be responsible for:
- Design Instrumentation Concepts: Develop and mature concepts for transport pipelines, valve stations, and pump stations within the CO₂ network.
- Manage P&IDs & Documentation: Review and approve the instrumentation content of P&IDs, instrumentation lists, equipment lists, and I/O schedules.
- Define Metering Philosophy: Establish and standardise measurement concepts for pressure, temperature, flow, and quality (dense phase CO₂).
- Establish Instrumentation Requirements: Specify criteria for control valves, safeguards, vent/drain systems, and depressurization/blowdown facilities.
- Contractor Management: Act as the Discipline Engineer, overseeing and approving engineering contractor deliverables and technical datasheets.
To be successful in this groundbreaking role, you meet the following criteria:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Control Engineering, or a verifiably equivalent technical discipline.
- At least 10 years of experience within the process industry or energy infrastructure (e.g., CCS, Oil & Gas) with deep knowledge of valves, control systems, and measurement concepts.
- Extensive experience in FEED and basic engineering phases, including developing P&IDs according to relevant IEC and ISA standards.
